Alidade, a Mapmaker, is headed to the mountain village to bring back Harmony and other Memris. Lewis and Blue accompany him along his adventure to the mountains, and they meet Cado Stride. Cado and his people have been hiding in the mountain village to avoid the Night Coats, but his people are getting sick and need help. Will Alidade and his friends be able to help Cado and his people?

I did not read the first book in the series so I don’t know how Alidade, Lewis, and Blue all met and how the story all started. But I didn’t feel like I needed to read it in order to understand the second book. I liked the story, and I liked the magical characters. I thought Lewis was funny, and he had the funniest expressions of all the characters. I also liked how the Memris were so sassy.

I really liked the art, though it was dark because they were in the mountains the whole time so there weren’t a lot of bright colors used. I recommend this book to kids who like fantasy and books about magic.
