Agents Harry Steinbeck and Van Reed are back together again, this time looking into a cold case from twenty-five years ago that left a family of five brutally murdered. Their case takes them to the small Finnish town of Alku and a nursing home for killers. Blocked at every turn, Steinbeck and Reed struggle to find any clues or anyone willing to talk. Their only warning is that if they don’t stop poking around, The Reaping will begin. As children start to go missing, they begin a race against time to solve multiple cases before it’s too late.
I was so excited to read the next installment in the Steinbeck and Reed canon, but I found this one to be a little bit drier than the last. I think I enjoy tales from Reed’s point of view more than Harry’s. That being said, I think the author does a wonderful job with character development, and she brings them to life when you can tell the book is written from a different character’s point of view. Lourey is fantastic at creepy stories, and I definitely can’t wait to read the next book. I highly recommend you read her books.
